Initially known as Bolgiano & Son, the company faced internal challenges, including a lawsuit in 1895 when John Bolgiano sued his father. In 1897, Charles J. Bolgiano (Nell’s husband) and his brother Roland Bolgiano formed a new partnership. Over the years, the business underwent several name changes, including F.W. (Frank W.) Bolgiano & Co., as reflected in the building's signage. Charles’s vision was to provide high-quality seeds to farmers and gardeners, and his commitment to excellence quickly elevated the company’s reputation. As the company grew, it expanded operations to the factory at 411 New York Avenue NW, which later became Hotel Nell.
